The WiFi icon in my menu bar has been gray for sometime now, regardless of signal strength or connection. Some glitch in the Matrix no doubt. The solution I found is to restart the “ControlCenter”, i.e., the right-hand end of the menu bar.
killall ControlCenter
At least for now, my WiFi icon is working as expected.
