Since March 2020 I have worked from home. When COVID-19 exploded the University sent everyone who could work remotely, home. Many of us in IT have stayed at home. The Univeristy has wanted to bring us back for some time, but a lack of space to house us prevented that.
A building is being renovated to house IT, but it won’t be ready for another year. I thought I would be home until then, at least.
The University found space, and we’ve been called back.
It occurred to me today, that having to go somewhere else to work is now “remote” work. It’s remote from home. It’s remote from what I’ve come to feel is normal and ordinary.
To coin a phrase based on a line in the movie “Witness”, I’ll be out among the English.
I’ll still be working remote, only it’ll be remote from home.
